Code

Computer code; programming. Many modern digital artists are writing their own software using computer code to produce art. Admittedly, the mainstream art world is having trouble accepting this as an art medium. Meanwhile the artists who use code in an artistic context are increasing as is the sophistication of the work being produced.

GPL'ed Free/Libre Open Source Software for GNU/Linux

The following is software I have written for the GNU/Linux platform and is not intended as software art. This software is only available as source code which must be compiled into a binary format before it can be run. This is not uncommon on the GNU/Linux world but might seem a bit strange if you've only ever used Microsoft Windows. By making the source code available and licensing it using the GNU GPL, users are free to modify or improve the code, and re-distribute their modified versions.

Code Art, Net-Art

The software in this section is written within the context of art. In most instances it is the output of the software which is intended to be evaluated within an artistic context. See Pall Thayer's Microcodes for the opposite approach - where the code itself is to be evaluated within an artistic context.

Wryting In Code

In amongst the Journal entries there are texts which are inspired by code. The most recent of these can be found using the keywords facility to search for pages tagged with code and wryting. Some are loosely poetic, or to be found in the 'interstices' of code and poetry. Some are texts with code scattered amongst the sentences, while others contain texts written in the spaces around actual code.

Web Design

jwm-art.net is where I've practiced to most effect my web design skills. Behind the site, is a series of scripts for PHP which generate the pages from simple text files. I have sporadically developed these PHP scripts (or programs) since 2005, gradually becomming more ambitious.
